Hringrásar efni fá sífellt meiri athygli, ekki aðeins vegna umhverfisþátta (notkun þeirra dregur úr eyðingu náttúruauðlinda og myndun úrgangs) heldur einnig til að bæta framboðsöryggi efna. Þess vegna eru fleiri farnir að sjá raunverulega efnahagslega möguleika í notuðum efnum.
Í byggingariðnaði er nú algengast að endurnýta eða endurvinna múrsteina, steinsteypu, stál og tré. Hér má finna yfirlit yfir umhverfisáhrif þessara efna og hringrásarmöguleika þeirra, þar á meðal hvernig má endurnýta eða endurvinna þau.
